How to Get the Shopify GID?

When editing or adding a metafield that uses a Metaobject reference value in the app, you will need the correct GID (Global ID) of the metaobject entry. This GID helps Shopify identify the specific metaobject you want to connect to your product, collection, or other resources.

Below are the simple steps to find this value in your Shopify admin:

Steps to Get the GID Value

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin. From your dashboard, click Settings in the bottom left corner.

  2. In the Settings menu, click Metafield and metaobjects.

  3. You'll see a list of metafield and metaobject definitions available in your store. Select the definition you want. For example, let's use "Accessory size" as the metaobject definition.

  4. Click View entries. This will show all the entries under that metaobject.

  5. Select and click on the entry you want to open.

  6. Once opened, look at your browser's address bar (the URL at the top).

The URL will look something like this: https://admin.shopify.com/store/STORENAME/content/metaobjects/entries/shopify--accessory-size/116684685535

Copy the numeric ID from the URL. In this example, the number you need is: 116684685535

  7. Take that number and add it to the end of this format:

    gid://shopify/Metaobject/

Using the example above, it becomes: gid://shopify/Metaobject/116684685535

  8. When editing or adding a metafield that uses a metaobject reference, enter the GID value as the metafield value.

This same method works for any metafield and metaobject definition. Make sure you use the correct numeric ID of the entry you want to reference. Once you have the GID, you can use it in your Bulk Product Edit metafield edits.
