How do I add a specific variant to my products?
A variant is a specific combination of options (e.g., Red, Medium). If you want to add a new variant based on an existing one (without manually duplicating product details), follow these steps in the Bulk Product Edit app:
1. Open the Variants & Options tool. You can find this in the sidebar or dashboard.
On step one, configure the filter to target the products that require editing and add a variant. You can use collections, product ID, product title, and so on. The products matching the filter can be viewed by clicking the Preview matching products button.
- Click the dropdown box and select the add a variant option.
Now, you can create a new variant based on an existing variant. For example, let’s say you are selling t-shirts with two options categories: Option 1 is Color, and Option 2 is Size.
Suppose you already have a variant with Color: Blue and Size: Medium, but now you want to add a new variant with Color: Red and Size: Medium. In this case, you would input:
Add a new variant with a combination of variant option values: (Case sensitive)
- Option 1: Red
- Option 2: Medium
- Option 1: Blue
- Option 2: Medium
Note
- The new variant will inherit all other attributes (price, weight, compare price, etc.) from the existing variant.
- If the "Do not copy the SKU and barcode values to the new variant" checkbox is selected, the new variant will have the same SKU and barcode as the existing one. If you leave it unchecked, the new variant will have blank SKU and barcode fields.
Afterwards, you can thoroughly review all the information and click the Start Bulk Editing button to begin adding the variants, then wait for the task to finish.
Once the task is done, you can check for more details by going to View Tasks > Bulk Edit Tasks and clicking the Details button. You should be able to see that the variant has been added there.
